NEW RELEASE : The Mighty Mouse - "Live at Glenn Miller Café"

Live at Glenn Miller Café is the follow-up to Danish/Norwegian jazz piano trio The Mighty Mouse’s 2007 debut.

Recorded at the legendary Glenn Miller Café in Stockholm, the album documents the trio at the end of a row of concerts in Germany and Sweden. It showcases each member’s compositions as well as the trio’s open approach to the written material that allows the three musicians move in and out of composition and improvisation and letting it melt together into one thing, where the boundary between the two disciplines are broken down.

Live at Glenn Miller Café will be available during May 2012 on double 12” vinyl, CD and download from all Barefoot Records retailers.

Barefoot Records præsenterer i samarbejde med PG Special Agent/One Spot Jazz, 3 koncerter på Café Charlottenborg i foråret 2012. Her kan man opleve et udpluk af de spændende og varierede musikalske projekter der er repæsenteret på Barefoot Records.

Den norske trommeslager og komponist Håkon Berre har etableret sig som en af de mest interessante unge musikere på den danske scene for improviseret musik. Hans opfindsomme og energiske trommespil har bragt ham til klubber og festivaler over hele verden, i samarbejde med kunstnere som Peter Brötzmann, Kasper Tranberg, Peter Friis-Nielsen, Niels Præstholm, Petter Wettre, John Tchicai og Sture Ericson. Håkon kan opleves på en diskografi der spænder over 17 CD’er, mange af dem udgivet på Barefoot Records, hvor Håkon er en af medstifterne.

Stephan Meinberg er en fordomsfri, ikke-dogmatisk improvisator og komponist fra Hamburg, der opfinder overraskende og følelsesmæssigt rige musikalske historier sammen med sine medmusikere. Baseret på lange erfaringer med en mange forskellige musikalske sprog, benytter Stephan en bred vifte af klange, instrumentale teknikker og formgivende strukturer; hans spil er kendetegnet ved nuancerede rytmer, impulsiv energi, en sangbar melodiøsitet, ekstrem dynamik, underlige lyde, glimt af mikrotonalitet, og en lineær intensitet. Stephan er aktiv med orkestre som “vitamin”, “Arnie Bolden”, “Heelium” og “moLd” (med de danske musikere Anders Banke, Mark Solborg, Peter Bruun) og har ellers spillet med bla. Charlie Mariano, Han Bennink, Günter “Baby” Sommer, Dave Liebman, Chris Speed, Dieter Glawischnig, Matthias Schubert, Nils Wogram, Wolfgang-Schmidtke-Ensemble feat.. Linda Reinered (f.1984) er danser, performer og koreograf med base i København. Hun er uddannet fra Skolen for Moderne Dans i København i 2011. Før hun flyttede til Danmark arbejdede hun som danselærer og studerede dans i Sverige. Hun har sin baggrund i moderne folkedans, hvor hun har arbejdet i grupper som Qwinfolk, Contemporary Folkdance Company og Fomp. Hun har nu sit fokus på moderne dans og improvisation og arbejder sammen med grupper som Superhands og performance kollektivet Kötteatern.

Adam Pultz Melbyes (født 1981) særdeles fysiske og fantasifulde tilgang til kontrabasspillet, har resulteret i samarbejder med Jesper Zeuthen, Peter Brötzmann, Mark Sanders, Tobias Delius og Rudi Mahall og har i de seneste år givet sig til kende sig i improviserede solobaskoncerter, hvor menneske og instrument mødes i en rumlig og temporal fejring af musikkens nøgne manifestation i lyd.
Musikalske aksiomer som melodi, harmonik, skønhed og gru, står for fald i APMs musik, der istedet arbejder med intuition som et gennemgående element til skabelsen af struktur, spænding og forløsning.

Maria Faust (født 1979, Estland) er bedst som saxofonist og leder af septetten Maria Faust Group, der har udgivet to anmelderroste albums, samt kvindeimprovisationsgruppen Pistol nr. 9. Hendes energiske og følelsesladede spil er inspireret af moderne kompositionsmusik og østeuropæisk folkemusik, hvilket gør hende til en af de mest interessante og originale unge Københavnske saxofonister..

Tristan Honsinger (født 1949, USA) er en legendarisk cellist der arbejder i spændingsfeltet mellem kompositionsmusik, free jazz og fri improvisation. Han er bedst kendt for sine vigtige smarbejder med Cecil Taylor og Derek Bailey og bor idag i Berlin, hvor han er medlem af Tobias Delius 4 tet, Sean Bergins forskellige små og store grupper, Ig Hennemans strygergrupper og ICP orkestret. Han medvirker på mere end 60 plader og har spillet med musikere som Han Bennink, Evan Parker, Andrew Cyrille, Paul Lovens og andre.

Qarin Wikström er en svensk sanger og komponist, bosat i København. Hun er leder af bandet Kostcirkeln og også aktiv med bands som Sekten, Attaboy, Babakarej, Big Bombastic Collective og Rhododendron string band. Hendes musikalske tilhørighed befinder sig i udkanten af jazz, en blanding af genrer og lyde, med refenrencer til pop, avantgarde, nordisk folklore og svensk 70’er funk. Hun medvirker også på udgivelser med bands som Efterklang og Grammofunch. Udenom at være en aktiv bandmusiker, virker hun også som komponist og kor arrangør i en række danseforestillinger, teater opsætninger og kunstinstallationer.

During the VinterJazz Festival 2012 Barefoot Records presents 11 concerts on an intimate stage in the heart of Copenhagen. The program is a pure rollercoaster ride through modern jazz and improvised music and includes performances from both Danish, Norwegian, Swedish, Finnish, Estonian, Lithuanian and Italian musicians.

The concerts will be presented at “FISK” - DanChurchAid’s sustainable shop and coffee shop in the heart of Copenhagen. In FISK’s cozy and intimate café you can buy organic coffee/tea, juice, soft drinks and beer, in addtion to homemade cakes and buns. The FISH shop exclusively sells fair trade, second hand, redesign and organic products. The profit goes to DanChurchAid’s work in the world’s poorest countries.

The Danish/Norwegian piano trio The Mighty Mouse has constituted the backbone of several musical settings for years, and toured in Europe with artists such as Maria Faust, Peter Brötzmann, Petter Wettre, Jesper Zeuthen, John Tchicai, Lisbeth Diers and Peter Friis-Nielsen.

Lately, the trio has settled to explore their own repertoire of original compositions based on a highly developed interplay that is not afraid of taking the trio format to the extreme.

The character of the music is transparent and builds on melodic and rhythmical sketches as a basis for open improvisation. The great freedom and the responsibility that follows with this form of music is evident for the musicians as well as the audience and results in an honest art form that does not seduce the listener with cheap tricks but instead focusses on the immediate process of creation.

The Norwegian/Danish band Synnjadrag presents a highly personal sound based on the songs of Susanne Arnesen, where old Norwegian folk music melts with everything from jazz to reggae, cabaret and blues.

Since her childhood, the singer and songwriter Susanne Arnesen (who later has become a classically trained concert pianist) written songs that both textual and musically reflects life’s many ups and downs. Along with the jazztrio Trio Barefoot from Copenhagen she has created Synnjadrag, which in general presents a fresh breath of modern folk music.

The music ranges from evocative, introspective ballads to joyous uptempo songs, and the Norwegian lyrics shows us both pensive melancholy and biting irony and humor.

Synnjadrag has released three critically acclaimed albums: “Himmelen er fortsatt blå” from 2006, “En påtatt vår” from 2007 and “Alltid en ny oktober” from 2010. All three are released on the record company and musicians collective Barefoot Records. The band has, in addition to extensive touring in Norway and Denmark, performed on radio and TV and won the prestigious competition “Songs by the canal” in Lunde, Norway. This recognition has made the band a sought-after name on both the Norwegian and Danish festivals.

A tale of three cities” is a result of five intensive days of touring in may 2007, when bassplayer Adam Melbye and drummer Håkon Berre invited german saxophone player and freeimpro legend Peter Brötzmann to join in for their diploma exam at the Academy of Music in Esbjerg.

The exam was the first totally improvised in Denmark and resulted in the making of the MBB Trio – a hardhitting and and hardworking trio that delivers no-nonsense free jazz.

The music is uncompromising and raw, with a wide dynamic range and builds on a high level of communication between the three musicians. The CD contains 3 improvised tracks from live shows in Hamburg, Esbjerg and Copenhagen.

Bio:
Esther is an autodidact singer/songwriter and guitarist. She has been composing songs ever since that day she got the flu in 8th grade and picked up the house guitar and started playing out of sheer boredom.

Esther got her musical background from the music- and theatre scene in Trondheim, collaborating with all kinds of musicians and contributing to professional shows. Esther was later educated as a Kaospilot in Århus, an education focusing on project management and process leadership. Her final project was teaching kids how to

remember difficult facts, using catchy songs.

EstherOrkester is Esther’s musical baby and has been in her back pocket on her journeys. After years on the road, and filling up her suitcase with songs, the EstherOrkester debut album “Why we woo” was recorded with the help of some of the talented musicians of Barefoot Records.

Esther’s song writing has been acclaimed for its curious melodies, creative lyrics and highly personal style.

Susanne now lives in Oslo where she works as conducter, freelance soloist and accompanist.

His playing is characterized by a sonic diversity that utilizes the many possible ways of making the double bass whisper and scream by using hands, bows, sticks, combs, brushes and whatnot. His tone is dark and percussive, favoring a setup that calls for a quite physical approach to playing.

Maria Faust has been featured as a composer and player in Very Big Band, The European Broadcasting Union Bigband, Almost Arrangers and 4YP feat. Django Bates and has toured Denmark, Estonia, Sweden, Germany, Russia and China.

Also enjoying studio & sound engineering, Ole functions as sound engineer at Barefoot Records in his own studio.

Norwegian drummer and composer.

has established himself as one of the most interesting young drummers on the Danish scene for improvised music. Having expanded the drumset with a diversity of trash ranging from ringing bells, tin plates and chains, to pot lids, tea towels, forks and chopsticks, Håkon has made collaborations with artists such as Peter Brötzmann, Kasper Tranberg, Peter Friis-Nielsen, Niels Præstholm, Petter Wettre, Stephan Meinberg, John Tchicai and Sture Ericson.

Håkon is also working on incorporating realtime electronics into his playing. His inventive and energetic drumming has brought him to numerous clubs and festivals all around the world, and can be heard on a discography spanning 17 CD’s, many of them released on Barefoot Records, where Håkon is one of the co-founders.

Bachelor degree from Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen, 2011.

Bio:
Danish piano player and composer.

Jeppe is an innovative and energetic young piano player on the danish jazz scene. Playing a variety of musical genres from fully improvised jazz music to rock he tries to keep up a personal approach to whatever he does. He is currently working mostly with his own bands The Roll-Ons and Dødens Garderobe plus the indie band Bird Alert. In all of those groups he works as a piano/keyboard player as well as a composer. His playing and composing are always based on an attempt to be original and stay away from compromises.

Jeppe has made collaborations with a.o. saxophonists Andrew D’Angelo and John Tchicai, drummer Kresten Osgood and poets Peter Laugesen and T. S. Høeg.
